Here in the US, Thanksgiving is about a week away. For years I have said that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. My reasons include the focus on gratitude, the food (pie!), the chance to gather with family, and the fact that it isn’t a church holiday, and doesn’t fall on a Sunday. (In my life as a pastor, those last two were always points in favor.)
Recently my daughter told me Thanksgiving is her least favorite holiday. I can’t recall all of her reasons because I’m still coming to terms with the shock. I think some included the complex history around the holiday, the lack of decorations, and being a vegan. All very good points and duly noted. Doesn’t change my own assessment. (And she is still invited to eat with the family next week.)
I’m not hosting this year, so I’ve got a little more time to focus on something other than the food—like the gratitude piece. I’ve put together a seven day writing practice around gratitude, leading up to Thanksgiving. I’d love to have you join in.

Advent Writing Workshops
I’ve got two Writing in Company workshops registering now for Advent. Join me to use writing as a spiritual practice for the season of anticipation and waiting. We’ll use prompts from poetry, scripture, images, and objects, exploring our memories, and our imaginations. Give yourself a gift of time and space to prepare for Christmas. No writing experience is needed, and grammar and spelling don’t count.
